Review titles and editions to investigate
These are editorial research candidates, not confirmed live merchant stock. ISBNs can differ for books, eBooks, bundles and international versions. Verify the publisher record and format before purchasing or listing an item as available.

Adult-Gerontology Primary Care NP Certification Intensive Review (Leik)
6th edition · Springer Publishing · ISBN-13 9780826154736
AGNP primary care differs from adult-gerontology acute care; check your credential and exact edition.
Edition research candidate
Psychiatric-Mental Health NP Certification Review
2nd edition · Springer Publishing · ISBN-13 9780826153999
Check alignment with the selected PMHNP certifier and whether digital exams are bundled or sold separately.
Match the certification pathway
Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) materials should address health assessment, clinical decision-making, diagnosis and management across the lifespan. Adult-gerontology primary care requires a different population focus; acute care review materials are not a simple substitute. Psychiatric-mental health certification focuses on its own clinical knowledge and practice domain.
Start with the handbook and blueprint of the specific certifying organization. AANPCB publishes separate candidate and examination resources for FNP, AGNP and PMHNP. Candidates should also consult ANCC when that is their chosen certifier, because examination outlines may differ.
Compare comprehensive review against focused practice
Leik and other examination review programs may pair written content with extensive online questions, mock exams and video instruction. More features are not automatically better: identify your weak areas and whether you need content review, pharmacology reinforcement, diagnostic reasoning drills or timed practice.
Evaluate the durability of access. Some publisher digital packages provide subscriptions or institution-specific entitlements. A print edition or used book may not include transferable online practice tests even when the cover advertises them.
Edition and bundle identification
The workbook ISBNs are candidate identifiers for publisher verification, not evidence that an offer is currently available. Check print editions, eBooks, flashcard sets and courses separately. Springer lists some sets as forthcoming and warns that third-party purchases may not include usable digital components.
When comparing retailer offers, record the full title, precise edition, format, supplied access, seller identity and final delivered cost. Do not convert an unverified ISBN match into an endorsed certification preparation resource.
Independent buying analysis
Decision framework: align the credential, not just the book title
FNP, AGPCNP and PMHNP reviews overlap in clinical reasoning but prepare candidates for different certification scopes. The exam sponsor and candidate handbook take priority over a merchant’s generic “NP review” label.
| Candidate pathway | What the review needs to emphasize | Avoid this mismatch |
|---|---|---|
| Family Nurse Practitioner | Across-the-lifespan primary care, assessment, management and differential diagnosis | Adult-only or acute-care resources sold as if they cover the entire FNP exam |
| Adult-Gerontology Primary Care | Primary care for adult and older adult populations and guideline-based management | Confusing primary care credential preparation with adult-gerontology acute care |
| Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner | Psychiatric assessment, therapeutic approaches, psychopharmacology and role-specific reasoning | Assuming a broad FNP review adequately covers psychiatric specialty content |
| Comparing a book with a bundled course | Published textbook scope, explanations, test simulations and access duration | Comparing a single print ISBN directly with a subscription or multi-format bundle |
| Buying secondhand review material | Published content that remains relevant to the current blueprint | Relying on nontransferable codes or an unspecified outdated examination outline |
How we compare: These recommendations are based on the stated scope of each certification and the practical restrictions of textbook formats and licensed study tools. We have not tested or scored the books personally and do not claim a pass-rate advantage.
Applied buying scenarios: when the cheapest option is not the best value
Consider an FNP student comparing a paperback review with a larger course bundle. If the student already receives mock-exam access through their program, buying the bundle may duplicate an existing benefit. For another student without structured practice, additional simulations and explanation-heavy case questions may justify a higher effective price. Neither outcome follows automatically from the publisher name.
For an AGPCNP candidate, a general nurse practitioner review might include clinically useful material while missing important population-specific emphasis. An exam outline lets the reader make that distinction. PMHNP candidates have an even stronger reason to check for specialty-specific coverage rather than a general “NP certification” promise.
When an online retailer lists a newer edition with a similar title, check the subtitle, credential, exact ISBN and whether the product is the standalone text, an eBook, a flashcard set or a subscription package. Treat unverified publisher editions as candidates for further research, not as currently stocked books.
When the exact edition and format are known, search live offers by ISBN and check delivered price. Compare the retailer's title and conditions before following any sponsored link.
Before placing an order
Compare the publisher's ISBN to the retailer's listing, confirm exam and edition relevance, ask whether online questions are included and unused, and check the final shipping cost and seller return policy. A sponsored link does not imply endorsement by a certifying organization.
Sources and verification
Official examination organizations define test content. Publisher product records establish the edition and format; neither is proof that an affiliate retailer has stock.
